The mahout and his helpers scrub and bathe an elephant in preparation for the perehara at the Hunupitiya Gangarama Viharaya in Colombo. The event held tonight and Sunday has attracted a large number of jumbos from far away places and herded at the Vihara Mahadevi Park. Similarly, Sri Lankas main opposition the United National Party (UNP) which has the elephant as its party symbol too is readying to face another election on April 8. To emerge victorious, the party needs a strong slogan to drown the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) election propaganda.
