Feb 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is to consult the country's Attorney General on all the matters related to the investigation of Hicorp's arms deal.
All the reports and documentation on the investigation will be handed over to the AG and his advice would be sought on how to proceed, Ada Derana reported.
The CID is conducting and investigation on the alleged arms deal by the Hicorp International, a company belonged to the son-in-law of detained former military chief and defeated presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka.
General Fonseka's son-in-law, Danuna Tilakaratne, who was the president of Hicorp International and the British Borneo Defence, is accused of earning profits from arms procurement deals of the Army that were awarded to him by the former Army Commander General Fonseka during the war with the LTTE.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Danuna Tilakaratne. However, Danuna is evading arrest and his whereabouts are unknown at the moment.
Meanwhile, the Colombo Magistrate Champa Janaki Jayaratna today allowed the Terrorist Investigations Department to detain and question Fonseka's secretary Senake De Silva, Brigadier Duminda Kappetiwalana and four others until March 26 under the Emergency law. The suspects were arrested on charges of conspiracy to overthrow the government.
The Magistrate yesterday released eight aides of General Fonseka who were arrested by the CID soon after the conclusion of the Presidential Election.
